ANTIOCH (KRON) — An Antioch Unified School District official has issued a warning to students and their families after a student reported being grabbed by man while on her way to school.

The student at Deer Valley High School told officials a man approached her at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of Mokelumne Drive and Lone Tree Way, according superintendent Donald Gill.

Gill is asking parents to have conversations with their students and remind them to be safe while they’re going to school.

“If they encounter anything that is suspicious or makes their children feel uncomfortable, to run to school and get to school as quickly as possible and report that information,” Gill said.

According to the girl, the suspect was driving a four-door white Mazda without license plates. He asked the student if she wanted a ride and when she declined, he got out of the car and tried to grab her, Gill said.

The student said the suspect was a black man in his 20s with medium-toned skin and light facial hair, according to Gill.

Antioch police were notified of the incident, according to Gill. Police did not immediately return calls for comment today about the case.

Campus officials will be providing additional security in the area to keep an eye out for anything suspicious.
