Antioch police say attempted kidnapping of student appears unfounded

ANTIOCH (BCN) — Following a report of an attempted kidnapping of an Antioch highschool student on Wednesday, on Thursday police said that an initial investigation indicates no crime took place.

Police are still investigating the case, which was reported by an Antioch High School student at 8:30 a.m. and occurred at the 7-Eleven parking lot, located at 2707 Contra Loma Blvd.

The student told authorities that a stranger approached her and asked her several times to “come here,” according to Stephanie Anello, associate superintendent of Antioch Unified School District.

The student told authorities that the man then followed her as she drove to Antioch High School and left when she got to school grounds.

The two exchanged words in the 7-Eleven parking lot, but it doesn’t appear the man followed her to school, Antioch police Sgt. Tom Fuhrmann said.

“There was maybe some exchange of words that may have even been inappropriate,” Fuhrmann said. “The vehicle at the high school and the vehicle at the store appear to be two different vehicles from the video evidence we’ve reviewed.”

Fuhrmann said it doesn’t appear that the two vehicles were related. Although police are still investigating the incident, he said it “doesn’t appear there was any attempted kidnapping.”

Wednesday’s report follows the March 23 arrest of 21-year-old Javonn Allen on suspicion of attempting to abduct a teenage girl who was walking to Deer Valley High School.

When another student heard about the abduction attempt, she told authorities that a similar incident had happened to her a month prior.

Although she did not inform police at the time, she was able to positively identify Allen as the man who attempted to abduct her, according to police.
