ANTIOCH (KRON) — The mayor of Antioch is being hailed a hero after he comforted a man who suffered serious injuries in a high-speed crash late Tuesday night after a City Council meeting.
Mayor Wade Harper was driving home from a city council meeting shortly after 10 p.m. on A Street right by the Hwy 4 on-ramp when he witnessed the accident.
A pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed when it side swiped a city council woman’s car and rear-ended a construction truck that was occupied by two men.

The pick-up truck hit the construction truck so hard that the front end of the pick-up truck was stuck on the back of a construction truck.
Mayor Harper ran to the scene and told someone to grab a fire extinguisher because he saw that the pick-up truck was smoking.
He extinguished the pick-up truck then talked to the driver to make sure he was alright and assured him that help was on the way.
“My first thought was…call an ambulance, make sure they’re breathing, make sure they’re okay. That just kicked in right away,” Mayor Harper said after the accident.
Three people were taken to the hospital following the accident, the driver of the pick-up truck and its two occupants.
