ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — Search crews have found and killed an alligator in the Alameda County Creek that was first spotted on Monday in Fremont.

Authorities warned residents to stay away from the creek after a four-foot long alligator was spotted in the water, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The Animal Services and Game tried to locate the large reptile on Monday, but were unsuccessful.

The search of the waterway resumed today with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office taking over.

Fremont police said shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday that the alligator had been located and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was handling it.

Officials with the Department of Fish & Wildlife say they plan to shoot the alligator.Stay with KRON4 News for updates
