SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — CHP received reports Monday night of a fire coming through one of the expansion joints on the new span of the Bay Bridge, just east of Treasure Island in the No. 1 lane.
San Francisco arrived quicklyand put it out. CHP said it looked like some debris accumulated in the expansion joint, and that it may have been started by a cigarette. The fire has been put out, and Caltrans engineers are inspecting the scene.
There was no damage to any vehicles. The No. 1 and No. 2 lanes on the bridge were closed, but they re-opened at around 11:17 p.m.
