JUNEAU, Alaska (KRON) — An Alaska man hit a bear with a truck last month, and the animal was left stuck in the car for one day, according to the state’s Department of Public Safety.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers said 25-year-old Thomas Willis, of Juneau, was driving his Chevrolet S-10 truck on mile 16 of the Glacier Highway at around 11:30 p.m. on April 29 when he hit a large, adult black bear.

When the bear was hit, it became impaled on the truck’s front tow hook and lodged under the front axle of the truck, authorities said. Willis kept on driving for about 2 miles until he parked the truck at this house.

The next day, authorities said Willis saw the bear before he went to work. Willis then contacted troopers about the bear.

Troopers then helped Willis remove the bear, authorities said.

“The bear hide and meat was unsalvageable due to the distance it was drug and the time that had lapsed,” troopers said in a press release.

Willis was cited for failing to notify troopers of a crash involving a big game animal, authorities said.
