BERKELEY (KRON) — An alarm technician who worked on campus has been named a person of interest in the secret recording of more than 50 women in a University of California, Berkeley dormitory bathroom.
Lt. Marc DeCoulode said that no one has been arrested in connection to the hidden camera, but they have questioned the alarm technician.
The hidden camera was found in a women’s staff restroom on the lower level of the Unit 1 Central building last Friday. Police think the camera had been in the restroom since late April, when a sign was posted outside the public restroom directing women to use the staff restroom. The staff restroom is down the hall from the public restroom, near the loading dock.
The technician stopped working at the university on Monday, just three days after the camera was discovered. Police said they aren’t focusing on any other potential suspects at this time.
At least 50 women were secretly recorded. Police expect that number to grow as they review additional video.
Maintenance staff members are checking all residence hall restrooms to see if there are any other recording devices.
