ALAMEDA COUNTY (KRON) — Alameda County District Attorney Investigator Rick Orozco has been fired, sources say.
Orozco was a former Oakland police captain.
The District Attorney’s Office has issued the following statement about the firing:
“Mr. Orozco is no longer employed here. His appointment as an Inspector was withdrawn. Because this is a personnel issue, I cannot comment as to the underlying reasons.”
DA’s office spokeswoman Teresa Drenick said she had no update on another inspector who was placed on leave a week earlier for allegedly being involved with the teen, who goes by the name of Celeste Guap.
Orozco was put on leave in connection with the Oakland police sex scandal case, according to KRON’s Haaziq Madyun. KRON sources said there was an alleged relationship between the self-described call girl Guap and Orozco.
He was placed on leave as part of the expansive investigation into possible statutory rape, human trafficking, and sexual misconduct by Bay Area law enforcement officials.
Orozco retired from the Oakland Police Department last year and took on the role in the district attorney’s office. But he was placed on leave after allegations surfaced of inappropriate text messaging with the woman at the center of the scandal.
KRON was still trying to reach Orozco directly to hear his side of the story.
Orozco is just the latest person to be investigated for his alleged connection to this sex scandal that seems to be ever-expanding.
At least three Oakland police officers have been placed on leave, two have resigned, a Livermore police officer has been placed on leave, two Richmond police officers have been reassigned and a Contra Costa sheriff’s deputy has resigned.
Officers with the San Francisco police, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, and the federal Defense Logistics Agency have also been investigated in the course of the growing scandal.
The investigation grew from an Oakland police internal affairs investigation into the suicide of Officer Brendan O’Brien last September.
As details started to leak out about the scandal, three Oakland police chiefs left the post in a week and the city remains without someone in the chief’s position, with the department under direct control of City Administrator Sabrina Landreth.
