The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has extended an air quality advisory for smoke through Tuesday, Sept. 4 for the Bay Area.
Officials say the Bay Area may continue to experience smoke impacts from regional wildfires.
Offshore winds with periods of north and northeasterly flow are expected to cause smoke from regional wildfires to linger throughout the area.
Officials say these conditions may cause smoke to impact ground-level air quality.
If you smell smoke, officials advise you to protect your health by avoiding exposure.
If possible, stay inside with windows and doors closed until smoke levels subside.
You’re also advised to set air conditioning units and car vent systems to re-circulate to prevent outside air from moving inside.
Smoke can irritate eyes and airways causing coughing,a dry scratchy throat, and irritated sinuses.
Children, the elderly, and those with respiratory illnesses are particularly susceptible to air pollution levels and should take extra precautions to avoid exposure.
