SAN RAFAEL (KRON) — The 2100 block of Francisco Boulevard in San Rafael is closed following an accident Wednesday night.
At 10 p.m., a driver crashed his car into a PG&E power pole, shearing it off at its base.
The pole was left hanging over the roadway, forcing a closure in both directions.
The driver, 44-year-old Marvin Green of Richmond, was the only person in the car at the time of the accident.
He was not injured in the accident.
Officer believe that alcohol may have been a factor in this crash.
Green was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a sobriety test showed a blood alcohol content higher than .08%.
He was booked into the Marin County Jail.
PG&E was called to the scene to assess the damage to the power police.
Officials with PG&E determined that the pole needed to be completely replaced.
They estimate that it will take until 6 p.m. to complete the necessary work.
The 2100 block of Francisco Boulevard will remain closed in both directions until then.
This is the area of Francisco Boulevard East between Grange Avenue and the intersection with the Interstate 580 westbound on-ramp.
Local traffic for businesses along the 2100 block can access the area from Grange Avenue.
There will be no access from the Interstate 580 west bound on ramp intersection.
Drivers who take the westbound off-ramp from Interstate 580 to access businesses along Francisco Boulevard East can use the Bellam Boulevard exit.
