RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Documents obtained Thursday contain new allegations about a former N.C. State football player who became a sports agent, including a new connection to the University of North Carolina.
The documents say Eric Leak, a former Wolfpack receiver, bilked two NFL players out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
According to the warrants, which were unsealed Thursday, Leak took funds from former State star David Amerson and also Kennan Allen. The warrants allowed officials to search two of Leak’s homes in Raleigh, on Stone Kirk Drive and Isabella Cannon Drive. Wake County records show the Isabelle Cannon home as being owned by Emily Carter, and a neighbor said that was the maiden name of Leak’s wife.
Amerson was a star player at N.C. State who now plays for the Oakland Raiders. According to the warrants, Amerson claimed Leak stole approximately $300,000 from a bank account Amerson had at Bank of America. Amerson also said he had to repay a $100,000 loan that Leak had taken out without his knowledge.
Allen played at California in college. He now plays for the San Diego Chargers. Allen claimed Leak fraudulently prepared a Power of Attorney for him and used it to get a $100,000 line of credit from a bank in Tennessee. Leak used that money to set up The Keenan Allen Foundation and then funneled money from the foundation to his own business, the warrants said.
Both Amerson and Allen are from Greensboro.
The warrants also say a search of a home owned by Leak revealed that Leak provided improper benefits to an athlete at UNC. The warrants did not reveal the athlete or the sport.
Leak was barred from the N.C. State campus in 2013 after getting in trouble with the NCAA for providing impermissible benefits to former basketball player C.J. Leslie. An investigation showed he purchased a $137,000 Porsche for Leslie.
Leak played receiver and running back at State from 1997 to 2000 and formed Hot Spot Management in 2011.
