(BCN) – A police officer suffered some pain to their back Saturday night in Richmond when the officer’s patrol car was struck by another vehicle, police said.

The crash occurred at 9:30 p.m. at an intersection in the city’s Southern District. The traffic signal lights were out at the intersection because of a power outage.

The officer stopped his patrol car at the intersection and it was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Walnut Creek man, police said.

The officer spoke with the man who smelled of alcohol. The man did poorly on sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI, according to police.

The suspect’s blood alcohol level was two times the legal limit for DUI. The man had been convicted of DUI before, police said.
