SAN DIEGO (AP) – Authorities say a veteran San Diego police officer whose fatal shooting of an unarmed man was ruled justified last year accidentally fired a bullet into a baby’s crib earlier this year.
The crib was empty and no one was hurt in the Feb. 20 shooting. It occurred as officers conducted a probation check on one of the home’s residents.
The San Diego Union-Tribute reported Saturday it was Officer Neal Browder’s gun that went off.
Lt. Scott Wahl told the newspaper police conducted an investigation at the time. He declined to release further details.
Browder was responding to a call of a man threatening people with a knife when he shot Fridoon Rawshan Nehad on April 30, 2015.
Browder says he mistook a pen Nehad was holding for a knife.
