93-year-old Foster City man charged in wife’s stabbing death

REDWOOD CITY (KRON/BCN) — A 93-year-old Foster City man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of his wife, prosecutors said on Monday.

Wayne Bair is accused of killing his wife 90-year-old Marie Bair, before trying to kill himself, inside their home in the 200 block of Spinnaker Street last month.

Police say on June 13, officers responded to reports of a medical emergency at the home and found both Bair and his wife suffering from stab wounds to their necks. Marie Bair was dead by the time officers arrived, police said.

There were no signs of forced entry or intruders in the home and the knife was located at the scene, according to prosecutors.

Wayne Bair spent weeks in the hospital recovering from his apparent self-inflicted stab wounds before he was charged with murder and an enhancement for use of a deadly weapon.

He was charged in San Mateo County court on Friday and is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 31 to enter a plea. He remains in custody without bail, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
