A San Francisco girl is one of the first in the nation to join what used to be the Boy Scouts of America.
The organization recently changed its name to Scouts BSA to be more inclusive.
KRON4’s Hermela Aregawi spoke with 8-year-old Jordan Fong, who wanted in on the action.
Fong had been with the Girl Scouts for four years before she made the switch.
She said seeing her older brother take part in the group’s activities inspired her.
“What I saw there was really good archery, rock-climbing, and horseback riding which I really like,” Fong said.
The girl’s mother, Lei Fong, is proud and excited for her daughter.
“She was inspired to see 700 boys getting ready for their trek,” Lei said. ” I remember her saying, ‘whoa I totally want to do that too.'”
