SAN JOSE (KRON) — Police remain on the scene of a popular South San Jose shopping mall to investigate a fatal collision involving a 6-year-old boy, identified as Aniket Gadre of San Jose, according to authorities.

The child was struck by a car Thursday at 9:34 p.m. in the parking lot at Westfield Oakridge Mall, near the Cheesecake Factory and California Pizza Kitchen restaurants.

San Jose Police Officers responded to the mall located at 925 Blossom Hill Road on a major injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed the boy was walking in the parking lot with his mother and older sister. The child’s mother was holding his hand when a grey 2015 Mercedes struck the mother and son at a low speed.

The child was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

At this time, alcohol and drugs are not suspected.
