FRESNO, Calif. (AP) – Fire officials say five people are dead after a fire broke out at an abandoned home in Fresno early Sunday.
The Fresno Fire Department says fire crews brought six people out of the boarded-up home and that four were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Fresno Bee reports one more died at a hospital. The condition of the sixth person is not known.
Fire Battalion Chief Lawrence French says a neighbor told police he heard people screaming for help and pounding against a window.
