SANTA CLARA (KRON) — The San Francisco 49ers teamed up Habitat for Humanity on Tuesday to help build playhouses for kids in need.

About 150 volunteers from the Niners organization including coaches, staff, as well family members of the team gathered on the 49ers practice field in Santa Clara and rolled up their sleeves to build eight children’s playhouses.

The houses will benefit community charities including Costano Elementary School in East Palo Alto, YMCA San Francisco Mission Branch Preschool, UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital and “Family House”, and Sunnyvale Community Services.

Officials with the Niners say the proceeds from the playhouse building event will be used to fund the construction of an actual house in downtown San Jose. In November, 49ers players plan to participate in the construction of the house. The 49ers Foundation has also donated $16,000 to Habitat of Humanity to help pay for the project.

The Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley’s Playhouse Program is a team building effort designed to benefit children in the community. As part of the program, volunteers work together to construct useable and durable children’s playhouses to help Bay Area families with limited incomes.
