WATSONVILLE — A 46-year-old man was killed in a rollover crash off state Highway 1 near Watsonville on Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Around 7:50 a.m. Friday, the man drove a 1997 Toyota Camry on northbound Highway 1 north of Riverside Drive, where he veered the vehicle off the roadway and onto the right shoulder, CHP officials said.

The car struck a freeway Call Box sign, and then rolled over onto a dirt embankment, according to the CHP.

Emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene, CHP officials said.

He has been identified as Michael Dwyer, a resident of Coarsegold in Madera County, according to the Santa Cruz County coroner’s office.

Investigators do not know if the man was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, CHP officials said.

It has not been determined if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, CHP officials said.
