SAN JOSE (KRON) — A 16-year-old driver is in police custody on suspicion of hitting a 4-year-old child in San Jose and fleeing the scene Tuesday night.

Officers responded at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday to a hit-and-run collision in the area of the 2100 block of Lanai Avenue.

Witnesses saw the child get hit by a red vehicle, and gave the description to police. Officers later located the vehicle described by witnesses and arrested the teen, according to police.

The child sustained non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital.

Police have not yet released what supporting evidence lead them to the teen’s arrest, or the teen’s identity.
