OAKLAND (KRON) — The family of the 4-year-old boy shot in the head in Oakland Wednesday afternoon confirmed the child is on life support at a local children’s hospital. 

In a statement, the family said the 4-year-old, identified as Navaun Jackson, accidently shot himself in the head after finding a gun under a bed.The gun was unlocked and loaded. 

The boy has been through hours of surgery and does not show signed of brain activity, according to the family’s statement. 

Around 2:02 p.m. Wednesday, first responders arrived to a home on the 2400 block of Ritchie Street, where they found the child. 

Officers said that adults were in the home at the time of the incident. Police said Wednesday afternoon that a man and woman were being detained.
