A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was reportedly shot in the head inside an Oakland home on Wednesday, according to Oakland Police Department.

Officials have reported that a man and a woman have been detained following the shooting, however, it is unknown at this time what their relation is to the boy.

Around 2:02 p.m. first responders arrived at the home on the 2400 block of Ritchie Street.

Officials found the child suffering from a gunshot wound and medical treatment was provided on the scene.

The boy was then taken to a local hospital where he is being treated.

Officers say that adults were in the home at the time of the incident and were being questioned by police.

Police officials remain on the scene to investigate and are waiting to obtain a search warrant to go inside the home.

Authorities have not released information as to whether the boy shot himself or someone else shot him, however, the brother of the man who was detained said that the boy got ahold of the gun underneath a bed.

As the investigation continues, more information will be released.
