STOCKTON (KTXL) — Three teenagers and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of shooting a man in Stockton early Wednesday morning before taking his car.
Just before 2 a.m., officers found a 20-year-old man, who had been shot, lying on the ground on East Fremont Street near North Wilson Way.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he died, according to the Stockton Police Department.
Devastated loved ones say the victim was working overtime at Panda Express and on his way home he was shot dead.
In pictures Cassandra Valadez shared with KTXL there’s a smile only her boyfriend, Juan Dominguez, can bring. It was a love they often talked about through text messages.
“He was talking to me about our future,” Valadez said.
In his last message to his girlfriend, he says he would see her in the morning, along with his usual, sweet response.
“‘And I let you know when I get home. Good night, sweet dreams, and I love you.'”
Morning came but Dominguez was not there. Hours later Valadez says she got the heartbreaking news.
“I fell to the ground. So devastated, realizing I just lost like my love, my life, my everything, my smile,” she told KTXL.
Valadez says Dominguez was supposed to be off work by 11 Tuesday night. Instead, he worked until almost 2 a.m.
“She’d make him actually clock out at his time and work overhead without pay,” Valadez claimed.
Investigators with the Stockton Police Department say the 20-year-old was the victim of a random robbery.
Two boys, a 13-year-old and 16-year-old, are in custody for his murder. Raymond Williams, 19, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested. They’re facing accessory to murder charges.
All were caught in Sacramento County in Dominguez’s Honda Accord.
“Angry,” Valadez said. “I feel they shouldn’t deserve to live. They’ve taken something so precious.”
Officers have been echoing the same question the community has been asking about the suspects — where were their parents?
“We would not be having this discussion right now if those kids were where they’re supposed to be that morning and that’s at home,” said Stockton Police Department spokesman Officer Joe Silva.
Loved ones say Dominguez was never involved with anything bad.
“He always put petty grievances aside in order to make sure that we were OK and that there was someone there for us,” said his friend Austin Kenyon.
Dominguez had been studying to become a CHP officer, a future he had planned to talk about with Valadez the morning he was killed. He had been also looking at engagement rings for Valadez.
“At the mall, he was looking,” Valadez said. “He wouldn’t let me see it. He had picked it out though.”
