SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Following a two-month long investigation, officers with the San Francisco Police Department have arrested two men they think are connected to a series of robberies within this city. Along with the arrests, police seized 38 different firearms.
Police dubbed the robbery series the “Letterman Robbery Series” because one of the robbers wore a letter-man style jacket.
The first robbery happened on April 22, at a gas station in the 2900 block of San Bruno Avenue, in the city’s Bayview District. Three more robberies soon followed in different areas of the city.
In their investigation, police found information that linked them to two suspects, 56-year-old Homer Matthews of San Francisco and 31-year-old Austen Chin of South San Francisco.
Matthews was arrested on May 24, after police officers recognized him from a crime alert bulletin.
One June 3, with help from the San Mateo North County Regional SWAT Team, San Francisco police served a search warrant on the 100 block of Nursery Way in South San Francisco.
While executing that search warrant, police arrested Chin and seized 38 fire arms. Along with that, police found bomb making materials and several suspected destructive devices.
The firearms seized consisted of 22 assault weapons, 12 handguns, two bolt-action sniper rifles and two shotguns.
