Officials are at investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Napa early Wednesday.
According to the Napa Police Department, officers responded to the Kentwood Apartments on Soscol Avenue around 1:50 a.m. on a report of an assault.
The reporting party said the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old David Alejandro Molina of Napa, was armed with a handgun.
Officers found Molina riding a skateboard on Soscol Avenue a short while later.
According to officials, when officers asked Molina to put his hands up and get on the ground, he instead ran away into the Stonehouse Apartment complex.
Officers chased the Molina, who repeatedly ignored officers’ commands to cooperate, officials said.
The chase ended in a fight between an officer who used his department-issued rifle.
Officials say Molina died at the scene. An autopsy is pending.
The officer sustained minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave per policy.
