SAN LEANDRO (KRON) — San Leandro Police are looking for the person who stole at least 25 license plates in less than a week.
The plates were taken from parked cars in the Broadmoor neighborhood during sundown, police said.
It is unclear why a person would steal that many plates, according to police.
“There could be many reasons, including selling them as novelty items, using them as art, or possibly, attaching them to cars used in crimes, hoping to avoid being identified by detectives and escape capture,” San Leandro Police said.
San Leandro Police recommend that as you warm up your car each day, make sure both of your license plates are on the vehicle.
Police also encourage anyone who has also been victimized by this type of theft, but hasn’t reported the crime, to contact them. Investigating officers will enter the stolen license plates into a Nation-wide database which can assist in the arrest of offenders and recovery of the stolen plates.
If you have any other information the thefts, please contact San Leandro Police, especially if you have video surveillance that may have caught the thieves in the act.
