2 suspects dead, 5 police officers injured in Houston shooting

Houston’s Police Chief Art Acevedo says two suspects are dead after a shooting that injured five officers, including four who were hit by gunfire on Monday evening.

Chief Acevedo says the suspects were killed after firing at officers serving a search warrant at a southeast Houston home where authorities allege black tar heroin was being sold.

Four of the officers were shot and a fifth suffered a knee injury.

The officers were wounded while serving a warrant on a suspected drug house. Two of the officers needed surgery and are in critical but stable condition.

The other three officers injured are in stable condition, in fact, one was just released from the hospital.

Police didn’t immediately have additional information about the suspects or the shootout.

Governor Greg Abbott released a statement Monday evening:

“This evening’s horrific attack on police officers is a solemn reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make every day to keep us safe. The city of Houston and the Houston Police Department will have whatever state resources they need to bring swift justice to those involved. I ask all Texans to join Cecilia and me in praying for the officers injured, and for the continued safety of all law enforcement officers who protect our communities.”
