2 suspects arrested in shooting of woman at Rohnert Park motel

ROHNERT PARK (KRON) — Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a woman at the Rohnert Park Motel 6 early July 2, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

Ronnie Paul Threadgill, 22, of Santa Rosa was identified by police as the suspect who shot the victim, an alleged prostitute, according to police. As well, police added, Threadgill apparently used the gun to strike the head of a male who was with the woman.

Threadgill was arrested on charges of attempted homicide and assault with a firearm.

One of Threadgill’s roommates, 19-year-old Koa James Sibley of Santa Rosa, was arrested on a charge of being an accessory to the attempted homicide of the victim, police said.

Minutes after the emergency call reporting the shooting on July 2, a responding officer stopped Threadgill and Sibley after they drove away from the Jack in the Box, located in the same shopping center as the Motel 6 on Commerce Boulevard, according to police.

Threadgill and Sibley told the officer they were Santa Rosa Junior College football players and they had just stopped at Jack in the Box to get some food they told police was in the car. While the officers were with Threadgill and Sibley, another Rohnert Park officer requested emergency assistance with a subject they had located, police said. Prior to responding to the other officer’s emergency request, the officers recorded the men’s identification and allowed them to leave.

During the investigation and a review of surveillance video from several businesses in the area, police said the video showed the suspect who shot the victim being dropped off by a car and walking towards the motel. The surveillance video, police added, showed the suspect running from the motel a short time later and the same car picking him up across the street.

Later, police said, when detectives learned about the traffic stop of Threadgill and Sibley, Sibley’s car matched the vehicle seen in the surveillance footage, and Threadgill matched the description of the suspected shooter. Detectives said they also found photographs of Threadgill wearing the same distinct eyeglasses as the ones left behind in the victim’s motel room.

The male who was hit with the gun, and was later arrested on suspicion of pimping, was able to identify Threadgill as the subject who ran from the room after hearing the gunshots, and as the man who hit him, according to police.

Rohnert Park detectives, assisted by the Santa Rosa Junior College Police Department, Santa Rosa Police Department Detectives and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department’s Multi Agency Gang Enforcement Team, said they located Threadgill on the Santa Rosa Junior College campus at a weight training class Friday around 4:30 p.m.

Officers stopped Threadgill while he was driving away from the class, police said. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Later, just before 7 p.m. Friday, Rohnert Park detectives located Sibley at work in the Santa Rosa Plaza, according to police, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for Threadgill and Sibley’s apartment in the 1500 block of North Street in Santa Rosa where police said they located several items of evidence related to the crime.

Both suspects were booked into Sonoma County Jail, police said. Threadgill’s bail was set to $1 million bail, according to police, and Sibley’s bail was set to $500,000.

The victim is still hospitalized with serious injuries, police said, and remains unable to communicate with detectives.
