ROHNERT PARK (BCN) — A pair of student filmmakers from Sonoma State University have raised more than $11,000 to see their work screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France next month.

“Snake Eyes” and “Rampage” were written by Mary-Madison Baldo and produced by Alex Bretow. Both films were co-directed by Baldo and Bretow, according to a statement from the university.

The two films were accepted for the Cannes Short Film Corner after being submitted to the Campus Movie Fest competition last fall. Only 26 such films were selected out of thousands of submissions nationwide, university officials said.

The two student-filmmakers estimated that in order to go to Cannes and see their films screened, they’d need to raise roughly $11,000 by this Friday, according to the university.

According to their GoFundMe page, Bretow and Baldo had raised $11,460 in 19 days as of this morning. They exceeded their funding goal of $11,000 with days to spare before the upcoming fundraising deadline.

The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 13 to May 24. The full list of films included in this year’s 12-day festival will not be made available until a news conference scheduled for April 16, according to the festival’s website at www.festival-cannes.com.
