WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) – Authorities say two people have died after their vehicle hit a deer on a rural South Carolina highway and they were struck by a van as they tried to remove the deer’s body from the road.
Highway Patrol Cpl. Judd Jones tells local news outlets the accident happened shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 15 north of Walterboro in Colleton County.
One of the victims died Saturday night at a hospital in Walterboro while the other was flown to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and died Sunday.
The coroner identified the victims as 17-year-old Casey Parrott and 28-year-old Marshall Catterton, both of Walterboro.
The driver and a passenger in the van were not hurt.
