Two kayakers who went overboard on Saturday night near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge were rescued after being in the water for more than two hours, according to authorities.
Around 8:20 p.m. the two 21-year-old kayakers called 911 for help.
The US Coast Guard sent out a helicopter and San Rafael Fire, Tiburon Fire, Southern Marin Fire, and Kentfield Fire sent out boats to search for the victims.
Around 9:20 p.m. a CHP helicopter joined the search. By 10:35 p.m. the helicopter found the kayakers in the water using a camera system. The video recorded was released showing the rescue.
The two were about a quarter of a mile off the shore of Tiburon, which is about two and a half miles away from where they were when they called 911.
Officials say they were ‘frantically’ trying to swim to shore.
The coast guard helicopter and Tiburon Fire were directed by the CHP to where they were.
Luckily, the kayakers were wearing life jackets which saved their lives. Officials say it would have been harder to stay above the water for that long if they were not wearing them.
