CASTRO VALLEY (KRON) — Two males were killed and others are injured from a collision on Friday night in the Castro Valley area of unincorporated Contra Costa County.
The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Crow Canyon Road at Norris Canyon Road.
A BMW sedan was driving was three passengers southbound and made an effort to maneuver around a vehicle on its left side, a Volkswagen SUV, causing an initial minor crash – affecting the BMW more than the SUV.
The BMW lost control and veered into the northbound lanes and oncoming traffic, resulting in the BMW and a Toyota pickup truck colliding.
The male driver and the male passenger of the BMW were pronounced dead, the rear passenger, a female, was transported to the hospital with serve injuries.
The male driver of the Toyota pickup truck was transported to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries.
The status of the driver of the Volkswagen SUV was not stated.
The scene was blocked off for four plus hours.
According to Castro Valley California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Jacowitz, speed and passing maneuvers contributed to the cause of collision.
It has not yet been determined if drugs or alcohol played a factor.
