2-alarm fire destroys home, two cars in San Jose

SAN JOSE (BCN) — A two-alarm fire destroyed a two-bedroom, single-story home and two cars Sunday evening in San Jose, according to the San Jose Fire Department.

Dispatchers got the first report of the fire at 5:34 p.m. in the 1300 block of Bird Avenue.

The residents of the home who were inside heard an explosion from the garage and escaped uninjured with their dog, fire Capt. Peter Caponio said.

Caponio said the fire spread to a large tree, but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to other structures.

Three residents are left without a home as a result of the blaze, which also destroyed two cars. The American Red Cross will be helping the three people, Caponio said.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 6:14 p.m., Caponio said.
