SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — One of the San Francisco Police Department’s most-beloved animals retired on Wednesday.
19-year-old Gunny the horse was sent off with a goodbye bucket brunch retirement ceremony.
He was given apples and carrots at Lefty o’ Doul’s restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in Union Square at around 11 a.m.
Gunny is a veteran of parades, including for the World Series and Veteran’s Day. He is black in color with a white star and snip.
He is a Tennessee walker, who first came to the unit in June 2009.
Gunny’s shoes will be nailed above Lefty O’ Doul’s door alongside several horseshoes from other retired horses.
