KRON4 is learning more about an East Bay teenager who died in a house fire.

Her family and community are mourning her death while rallying to support each other.

The 16-year-old went to Miramonte High School. KRON4 has learned another teen and student was also injured in the blaze.

On Monday, the community was rallying around the girl’s family as they deal with this horrible situation.  A growing memorial is in front of an Orinda home on Moraga Way after a ferocious fire erupted this past weekend.

The fire killed Luca Gero and injured her friend and an adult male.

“We found out and are very sad,” Principal Julie Park said.

“We offered counseling to teens,” Park said. “We are closed but wanted to help out.”

Park says Luca was on the track team and Latin club. At school Monday, teens said they are in shock about her death.

Her friends tell KRON4 that she was at home with a friend, and an exchange student was acting as a chaperone while her parents were away for the weekend.

The fire department is investigating the cause. They have said the fire was so hot, crews initially couldn’t go inside. One firefighter was injured, but he has since been released.

Luca’s friend and the male adult were taken to the burn center in San Francisco.

There is no information on the condition.

The school district’s superintendent has issued the following statement:

I am heartbroken for this Orinda family on the tragic passing of their teenage daughter in a house fire yesterday. Orinda Union School District and the Acalanes Union High School District are providing counseling support for the siblings of this beloved young woman, school staff, and students as they process this unfathomable news. The remarkable community that is Orinda has already mobilized to support the family in numerous ways and will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead.
