OAKLEY (BCN) — A 14-year-old bicyclist died Monday morning after he was struck Sunday night by a vehicle in Oakley, according to city officials.
The collision was first reported around 8:15 p.m. near Big Break Road and Vintage Parkway, city officials said.
The teen cyclist was allegedly riding on the sidewalk before entering the roadway to avoid pedestrian traffic, just before a driver struck him, according to city officials.
The injured teen was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital Oakland, where he later died.
The driver is cooperating with the investigation and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision, city officials said.
