FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (KRON) – A school shooting on the campus of Northern Arizona University has killed one person and injured three others early Friday morning.
The shooter has been identified as 18-year-old Steven Jones. He is in custody and the campus is no longer on lockdown, according to police.
The person killed is believed to be a freshman at NAU, according to NAU Police Chief.
The incident took place in a parking lot outside of Mountain View Hall on the northeast end of the Flagstaff Campus. The first call of shots fired came in at 1:20 a.m.
Two groups of students got into an altercation which lead to one student pulling out a handgun. He then opened fire, shooting four other students.
The three victims are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center. There condition is unknown at this time.
Northern Arizona University Police Department is working on the investigation with the Flagstaff Police Department at the scene.

“This is not going to be a normal day at NAU,” said school President Rita Cheng. “Our hearts are heavy.”
She called it an “isolated and unprecedented incident” and said classes would go on as scheduled Friday.
A fraternity said some of its members were involved in an early morning shooting involving Northern Arizona University students in Flagstaff.
Iowa City, Iowa-based Delta Chi Fraternity said Delta Chi members were involved, but Executive Director Justin Sherman said in the statement that the organization doesn’t have detailed information about the identity of the victims.
Sherman said it was an isolated incident and not fraternity related.
The shooting occurred near a large residence hall that the university’s website says is home for most students in the Greek system on campus.
