GILROY (KRON) — 1 person has died and two others were injured in a car accident in Gilroy Tuesday afternoon.

Around 12:27 p.m., police were called to the area of Leavesley Road, just east of Arroyo Circle where a car had hit a utility pole, leaving live power lines down in the area.

When police got there, they saw that the vehicle was overturned and that all three people inside the car had been ejected.

The driver was suffering from major trauma, with no pulse of breaking. Medical personnel performed CPR and were able to stabilize the driver and take him to the hospital. He was immediately taken to surgery for treatment of his injuries.

Wednesday, police said that 27-year-old Mark Pierce, the driver of the car, died from his injuries.

One passenger was also taken to a trauma center with moderate injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening. A second passenger was treated and released from the scene with just minor injuries.

The accident is still under investigation, but the department’s Major Accident Investigation Team thinks that the vehicle was going westbound on Leavesley Road approaching Arroyo Circle when the driver veered off the roadway and hit the power pole.

At the time, police do not know if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.
