1 person in custody following standoff in San Jose

Police say one person is in custody following a standoff at a San Jose apartment complex Monday.

Police surrounded the apartment building near Jackson and Luz Avenue and some residents were evacuated as a precaution.

The armed suspect attacked his mother, police said.

The standoff ended after several hours.

SWAT team members were wearing bulletproof vests and armed with assault rifles in San Jose. This comes after police say a man physically assaulted his mother and then refused to come outside when police showed up.

Police backed off, seeing that the man’s mother was already out safely with no serious injuries. Negotiators then made contact with the man and for several hours, the two sides went back and forth.

Streets in the area were closed as SWAT team members took their positions.

After several hours, the man in question came outside.

The video is very grainy, but it was shot by neighbors who live in the area.

The suspect was taken into custody around 7 p.m. Monday and at that time, people were able to go back home.

The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
