FAIRFIELD: One person has died in a car crash Sunday morning on Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded at 6:54 a.m. to a report of a solo vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Highway 80 just west of Red Top Road, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The right lane was closed at 7:10 a.m. for the right lane, he said, and there was no estimated time for when the roadway would reopen.

This was the first of two fatal accidents in the area occurring about an hour apart, according to the CHP. The second fatal accident closed a westbound Hwy 80 lane.
