ALAMEDA (BCN) — An Alameda firefighter was injured while responding to an attic fire this afternoon.

According to fire officials, callers first reported smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 1600 block of Peru Street at 1:53 p.m.

Firefighters found a fire underway in the attic storage space of the one-story single-family home.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, limiting the damage to the attic and its contents, but one firefighter was injured.

The firefighter was treated at the scene and was able to stay on duty, officials said.

The residents of the house were displaced, but uninjured.

Fire officials say the fire is thought to have been caused by a hot halogen bulb that came into contact with combustible items.
