Ashley Zavala

Ashley serves as the Sacramento bureau reporter covering state government and politics.

Previously, Ashley spent eight years as a reporter in Columbia-Jefferson City, MO where she covered everything from college football to crime, courts, to tornadoes and Missouri state politics. She was also one of the state’s few bilingual journalists.

Ashley began her career in college at the University of Missouri shooting high school football highlights for the local NBC affiliate, KOMU. There, she filled in as a sports anchor and reporter before joining Comcast Sports Southeast in Atlanta as a Mizzou athletics correspondent. Ashley later joined central Missouri’s CBS affiliate, KRCG, as a general assignment reporter. In 2015, Ashley’s coverage of the notorious campus riots on Mizzou’s campus was nominated for an Emmy award. She is also a recipient of two Edward R. Murrow awards. Ashley eventually helped launch the station’s investigative unit as its lead reporter. She covered both the inauguration and the historic resignation of the state’s governor from 2017-2018.

Born and raised in the Philadelphia metro area, Ashley is excited to explore the West Coast.
