San Francisco Mayor London Breed delivered the State of the City Address on Wednesday morning at the SF LGBT Center.
She addressed the issues the city faces, including homelessness, housing, and behavioral health, and steps she plans on taking toward correcting them.
“For too long now, our city has been the subject of a drumbeat of negative media attention, national stories claiming San Francisco has lost its way,” Mayor Breed said.
Referring to herself as the girl that went from public housing to the mayor’s office, Mayor Breed is setting ambitious goals for the city.
“In the next four years, I want to create enough shelter beds, step-up housing units, homeless housing units and housing subsidies for every person who is currently unsheltered,” Mayor Breed said.
She admitted the crisis in San Francisco reaches beyond housing and homelessness.
“The people injecting drugs, the people suffering from mental illness, they need more than housing. Often they are actually housed,” Mayor Breed said.
In addition, she addressed PG&E’s bankruptcy and the traffic in the city, but ended it on an inspiring note.
“I hope you believe with me. That you hold your head high and take pride in our city and what we can do together. Because we are San Francisco.”
