Authorities are investigating a fatal plane crash that happened Friday night near Mount Diablo, according to the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the single-engine Mooney M20 crashed into a hillside two mile southwest of the Peak of Mt. Diablo.
The FAA says a family member reported the aircraft was overdue after it had not landed as scheduled.
Officials say the pilot was the only person on board when the plane crashed.
The Associated Press reports that a body was found in the wreckage believed to be the pilot.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will take over the investigation.
