A possible suspect is being questioned in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a mother and her son in Oakland.

It happened Saturday night at the intersection of 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

There was a vigil at the site of the crash Sunday night.

Anselmo Garcia says his wife, Alma Vasquez, his 6-year-old son Angel, and Garcia’s 20-year-old brother were on a marked crosswalk when they were hit by a black two-door Mercedes.

Alma and Angel were taken to the hospital but later died from their injuries.

Residents say this is a dangerous intersection.

“To think you just live on the corner trying to go to the laundromat and you don’t think twice about it right? A light would be ideal but I’ve also heard having stop signs around these blocks, not just the straight shot that you see here so I think something would be better than nothing,” said Johanna Masis with the International Community School.

Oakland police later found the car involved in another area of Oakland, but it was abandoned.

Police say they have a possible suspect but no one is in custody at this time.
