SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KRON) — Three people were shot during a birthday party in San Leandro, causing a shut down of Hesperian Blvd on Thursday morning.

The San Leandro Police Department had closed both directions of the roadway from Thornally to Springlake, according to a 6 a.m. alert.

Police responded to the party at 15200 block of Hesperian Blvd around 2 a.m. for reports of a shooting. They found that three people had already left for the hospital for treatment with non-life-threatening injuries.

A large crowd was leaving the party at the time, but police said no one would discuss what happened. Officers found over 30 shell casings from two different ammunitions at the crime scene.

“We are grateful that the victims of this senseless shooting did not sustain significant injuries and urge anyone with information to call and help the police in solving this crime,” said Captain Ali Khan.

Police said they had responded to the same party earlier, around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, for a noise complaint but left after speaking with on-site security. The party was held at a banquet hall.

If you were a witness or have any information about the shooting, please call Detective Joe Kalsbeek or Det. Joanna Villa at 510 577 3274.
