PALO ALTO (KRON) — A woman who was home alone managed to scare off a burglar late Tuesday night in Palo Alto.

Around 11:50 p.m. police dispatch received a call from a resident in the 1300 block of Hopkins Avenue, near Rinconada Park.  A suspect had entered the woman’s home and was trying to break into her locked bedroom.  As the suspect tried to turn the doorknob to her room, the resident screamed, causing the suspect to flee, according to police.

Officers arrived shortly after and began searching for the suspect with the help of a canine unit from East Palo Alto police, but were unsuccessful in locating the suspect.

It appears as if nothing had been taken from the home, but detectives are investigating to see if the incident is related to two other overnight burglaries in occupied homes last March and July.

Officers are increasing patrols in the neighborhood in light of Tuesday night’s burglary, police said.
