SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) – Cat food laced with white powder was left on a San Francisco Bay Area trail and police are investigating how it got there.

KNTV in San Jose reports Thursday that police say the substance was found along the Three Creeks Trail in San Jose.

A dog owner says her 4-year-old black labrador retriever gobbled up a couple of bites of the cat food Tuesday. She became concerned and took her dog, Oreo, to a pet hospital as a precaution.

San Jose Animal Control Capt. Jay Terrado says the dog is going to be fine.

Terrado says the substance will be sent out for testing on Thursday to a laboratory at UC Davis’ school of veterinary medicine. Results are expected in a few weeks.
