ANTIOCH — Law enforcement officials in Antioch are investigating a Thursday incident in which a man being taken into custody suffered a medical incident and later died.
Antioch police officers responded at 12:25 p.m. to 2310 Sycamore Drive in response to a man who had forced the door of a resident’s apartment open and entered the home.
Officers located the man a short time later inside the apartment complex and tried to detain him, police said.
As they were trying to detain the man, he suffered some sort of medical distress, police said.
The man, identified as a 31-year-old, was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased, police said.
The incident is being considered an in-custody death, and is being investigated by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office, the Contra Costa County Crime Lab and the Antioch Police Department.
