UPDATE:
According to Lieutenant Greg Miller of the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, police responded to Lake Sonoma on the report that a 14 year old boy went missing in the water. At the time of the call, the Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit deputies were patrolling the lake in their boat and arrived on the scene shortly after the call.
Witnesses say two boys were being towed on an inter-tube behind a boat near the private marina. At some point while being towed, both boys were ejected from the tube and went into the water. One of the boys was able to swim to safety while the other went under the water and did not surface. Witnesses say the two boys were not wearing life vests at the time.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office dive team and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office dive team responded to the scene to search for the missing boy. Search teams used a helicopter and sonar boat during their search but could not find the boy.
Lieutenant Miller says the search will soon be called off for the night due to unsafe conditions. Lieutenant Miller says the search will be suspended until tomorrow morning.
The identity of the missing boy has not been disclosed at this time.
